What to decide before you scrape Facebook Marketplace

Consultancy questions for the ‘watch these keywords, keep a history per listing’ job — cadence, sold-or-gone, and when a person with a search tab is still enough.

The job is a watch on volatile stock. You search a keyword, a listing appears, the price moves or it vanishes, and you need that history — not a screenshot from this morning.

Teams often ask for “Marketplace data.” That is not a schema. Consultancy writes the grain first: one row per listing snapshot, or one row per item over time, and what you will do when a card is gone.

The questions that decide the build

Which keywords and cities are in scope this month. How stale is allowed — a day, an hour, fifteen minutes. What “sold” means in your file: last seen, a status flag, or a guess. Who owns re-runs when the page layout changes.

If you cannot name the grain, we will not start a pipeline. A dump of whatever loaded today is not a time series. If you only need a few searches once a week, a person and a tab is still cheaper.

When the brief is real, the work looks like the Facebook Marketplace case study: keyword searches on a schedule, snapshots in a store, first seen / last seen / price history per item. That write-up is one cadence. Your category may not need it.

This is not the GCC property listing job. Buildings stay up for weeks and the useful fields are size and location. Marketplace cards turn over fast. We will keep the two briefs apart.

What this is not

This is not a buying bot and not a messaging agent. Those are different jobs, and they carry account risk we will not treat as a feature. It is also not a public dashboard product. The file has to be honest before anyone charts it.

Kuwait and GCC desks use Marketplace for cars, furniture, and phones. That changes the keyword list. It does not change the sequence: name the searches, name the history you need, then decide if software is cheaper than the missed listing.

Start from AI consultancy if you only have the searches. Scraping is the build once the grain of a row is written down.
